Dean Of Students

Dr. Cheryl Swanigan

Dr Swanigan has a broad understanding of leadership and management in both for-profit and non-profit organizations and understands the dynamics of faith-based organizations. She earned her BS in Business Management in 2009 and her Master of Business Administration in 2010, both from the University of Phoenix. 

Seeing the disparity in good management practices in both private and public sectors of business Dr. Cheryl pursued and earned a doctorate in Business Management and Organizational Leadership in 2016.  Dr. Cheryl’s interest in looking for ways to help organizations create infrastructures that encourage growth, innovation, and full use of all human resources across the organization continued to fuel her work and education. 

In addition to Dr. Cheryl’s educational and work activities, she has a passion for giving back to her community.  She has worked with local Police Department youth programs, the American Red Cross, the Washtenaw County SOS program, United Way of Washtenaw County, Dress for Success Michigan, Packard Health Clinic – Patient Advocacy, and founded the GLAAM Girls, Inc. organization, a mentoring and empowerment non-profit organization for girls ages 8 - 13.

Dr. Cheryl Swanigan serves as the Director of Intercontinental (World-wide) Intercession for Jabula New Life Ministries International organization, spanning the continents of North American, South America and the Caribbean, Africa, Europe and Asia. Dr. Cheryl co-pastors with her husband Pastor Terry Swanigan, the founders of Life Covenant Church, in the Ann Arbor area in Michigan.

Jeffrey S. Akers

Jeffrey Akers is the founder of Learn Online  University. He has over 30 years entrepreneurial experience as owner of Jeff Akers Films Network LLC, Indi label A Legacy Records, Roku Digital Network Channels - Rhema Global TV Network and Film Shorts, and co-owner of EK Media. He was also the founder of the first commercial recording Studio In Port Huron and Marysville, Michigan. He studied at the Port Huron School of Business and Hi Le Records Recording Institute, Taiwan, Republic of China. 

Akers serves as founder and senior pastor of I Am Church, Greenville, South Carolina, and of the first Internet Church in the nation, I.A.C. World Ministries. He is also an international evangelist, certified life coach, multi-media director, assistant overseer, and international mission expert with missionary works in India and Jamaica.  

Akers' passion for spreading the gospel through film and television is demonstrated in his work as founder of Inner-City Gospel, a gospel music talk show which has aired on numerous networks and streamed online for more than a decade and as a filmmaker in Jeff Akers Films. Two of his recent film productions, Homeless in the South, a documentary, and the sci-fi Christian film Illumination, have garnered more than nine awards including Best Film Scoring, Best Actors, and Best Costumes. In addition, he has developed many social media marketing campaigns that have collectively helped raise millions of dollars in corporate America.

Akers serves as Board Chairman for I Am Changed, Inc.,Vice-Chairman for Pentecostal Assemblies of the Word International Missions Department, board member for New Beginning Ministries International,  H.O.P.E. Soup Kitchen, and the Outstanding Youth Awards.

His wealth of experience, and his vision to help others achieve is what fuels Learning University.

Dr. Clara Akers

Dr. Clara Akers is an Industrial-Organizational Consultant and owner of B.A. Ok Consulting LLC.

Dr. Akers is a committed psychology professional focused on interpersonal dynamics within expert environments.   Currently, Dr. Akers consults businesses for improvement of overall effectiveness and employee and customer satisfaction.  She specializes in work life integration, physical and mental well-being, organizational commitment and motivational aspects.

She has an earned PhD in General Psychology, Capella University, 2019; Masters of Science in Industrial Organizational Psychology, Capella University, 2015; Bachelors of Science in General Psychology, Clayton State University, 2012.

As faculty members, you have demonstrated your incredible care for and commitment to our students. Although circumstances have dramatically altered your plans for research and teaching, you have stepped up at an important moment. You have shared your collective wisdom and resources with colleagues across the learn online university platform, working rapidly and tirelessly to rewrite syllabi and take all of our online students to a new level of learning. I know how meaningful your efforts are for our students, and I want you to know how much all of us appreciate your hard work.
